Joshua Alvadore Ladd was the only child of Charles and Anna RosettaMarshall Ladd. he was born on the farm his grandfather, Samuel Ladd,bought from the government in 1849. His parents both died shortly afterhis birth and he was raised by his paternal granmother (Charity CookLadd) and his maternal grandfather (Joshua Marshall) who were marriedNovember 7, 1878.
He attended country school, Fairmount Academy and Marion College, Marion,Indiana. He was a farmer most of his life in Franklin Township, GrantCo., in Wells County and later back in Grant County, Indiana.
He is buried in the IOOF Cemetery, Marion, IN.
Lena Ladd Allen lived in Marion, Indiana, for many years and from May1966 until her death in 1967, she lived at Friends Fellowship Communityin Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana.
John Allen was attached to the staff of Lieutenant-Colonel TheodoreRoosevelt, Jr. during World War I. He received citations for his serviceand a letter of commendation from Lieut-Co. Roosevelt. He sustained abroken neck requiring him to wear a brace.
John and Lena Allen had no children.
Esther Cook Thompson was a commercial artist. There were no children ofthis marriage.
